Cat with an overactive thyroid? Check with your vet first. Seaweed naturally contains iodine.

You love the headbutts. Not the breath.

Cat bad breath is often plaque building up on the teeth. Brushing helps, if your cat will let you near her with a toothbrush, and most won't. Leave it, and plaque can harden into tartar, which only a vet can remove with a dental clean under anaesthetic.

One pinch, any dinner

Fussy cats, greedy cats, cats who live with dogs. It goes on whatever they already eat.

Clips marked "Dramatisation" are acted scenes made with AI to show how the routine works. They are not customer reviews.

How it works

  1. 1

    Pinch

A small pinch from the pouch. Cats need far less than a dog.

  2. 2

    Sprinkle

Over dinner, wet or dry. It's fine and mixes straight in.

  3. 3

    Repeat

Every day. Give it a few weeks: the routine does the work.

What's actually going on in there?

  1. 1

    Plaque

A sticky film of bacteria that starts forming on teeth within a day of cleaning1.

  2. 2

    Tartar

Within a few days, plaque starts to harden into tartar1. Brushing can't shift it; a vet removes it under anaesthetic5.

  3. 3

    Sore gums

Plaque against the gumline makes gums red and sore. Caught early this can settle down; left alone it can become gum disease that's hard to reverse.

And the smell? Bad breath comes from sulphur gases made by the same bacteria living in plaque3. That's why it creeps back, however many chews they get.

In UK vet records, gum (periodontal) disease is the most commonly recorded specific condition in cats2, and vets think the real number is much higher. Cats are also very good at hiding mouth pain.

What Sweet Snout does, honestly

What it's for

  • A daily routine that supports a cleaner mouth and fresher breath, working on the plaque that builds up every day.
  • It rides along with dinner: no brushing, no wrestling, no extra treats.
  • It suits cats who won't tolerate a toothbrush (most of them).

What it won't do

  • Remove tartar that's already there. That needs a vet's scale and polish.
  • Treat gum disease, or replace check-ups.
  • Beat brushing, if your cat genuinely lets you brush. Keep brushing.

When to see your vet, not a powder

Book a check-up if your cat has any of these5:

  • Red, sore or bleeding gums
  • Drooling, or pawing at the mouth
  • Eating less, or chewing on one side
  • Loose or broken teeth
  • Grooming less than usual
  • Weight loss

Cats hide pain well, so a cat can have a sore mouth and show almost nothing. If your cat has an overactive thyroid, ask your vet before using any seaweed product: seaweed naturally contains iodine.

Why we made Sweet Snout

We're a small, new pet brand, launching in the UK first. We started with a simple observation: most dogs and cats won't sit still for a toothbrush, and most of us give up trying within a week.

So we made the routine one that sticks. A sprinkle on dinner, every day, with nothing for them to fight. We'd rather tell you plainly what it does and doesn't do than promise miracles, which is why you'll find the "what it won't do" list and our sources on this page.

Cat questions

How much does a cat need?

Much less than a dog: a small pinch on dinner once a day, not a full scoop. Sprinkle it over wet or dry food.

My cat is fussy. Will she eat it?

The powder is very fine and mixes into food. Start with the tiniest pinch so she doesn't notice anything new, then build up over a week or two.

My cat has a thyroid problem. Can she have it?

Seaweed naturally contains iodine. If your cat has an overactive thyroid (common in older cats) or any thyroid condition, check with your vet before using it.

We have a dog and a cat. Do I need two pouches?

No. One pouch serves both: a scoop for the dog, a pinch for the cat. A big dog plus a cat will get through it faster, which is what the 2-pouch option is for.

Does it replace the vet or brushing?

No. Sweet Snout is daily support, not a treatment. Keep up check-ups, and see your vet if your cat has red or bleeding gums, drools, paws at her mouth or stops eating.

How do I use it?

Sprinkle it on your dog or cat's food once a day, dosed by your pet's weight as shown on the pouch: a pinch for cats and small dogs, up to a full scoop for larger dogs. Wet or dry food both work. The scoop comes in the pouch.

How long does a pouch last?

Around 2 months for a medium-sized dog. Cats and small dogs use less, so a pouch goes further. Large dogs may need a little more, which is why the 2-pouch option exists.

When will I notice a difference?

This is a daily routine, not a quick fix. Give it a few weeks of every-day use before you judge, and keep going: the routine is what does the work.

What if my pet is fussy?

The powder is very fine and mixes into food. If your pet is suspicious of anything new, start with a tiny pinch and build up to their full daily amount over a week.

What's in it?

A fine, olive-green seaweed powder. The full composition and feeding guide are printed on the pouch.

How does the subscription work?

Your pouch arrives every 2 months, at 20% off the one-time price. Skip a delivery, change it or cancel any time by contacting us. No minimum term.

How much is delivery?

Delivery is free on every UK order.
